2021 Press Release
Scottish Charity, Scotland Women in Technology, appoint new Chair and Vice Chair to lead the charity in driving gender equality in Scotland’s tech sector!
Scotland Women in Technology, a Scottish registered charity, continues its commitment to drive gender equality in Scotland’s tech sector by appointing Samantha Bedford, a digital innovation leader as Chair, and Vice Chair, Marisa Metcalf, a technology leader from Cisco, to lead and build upon the successes of their predecessors.
SWiT has been a long-standing network in Scotland since its formation in 2008. Under the leadership of the previous Chair, Lynsey Campbell, it became a registered charity in 2019. With several other very successful initiatives, including awards, events and workshops with multiple sponsors and partners, the charity has continued to grow and strengthen the contributions of Women in the tech sector in Scotland. The SWiT Board would like to thank Lynsey Campbell and Elaine McKechnie for their great leadership over the last three years and for setting strong foundations for SWiT to continue to develop.
As with many organisations, the Board at SWiT have taken time during the pandemic to re-evaluate and re-focus to ensure the future strategy serves its members. Bedford says, “I’m inspired to be leading SWiT as we navigate gender equality issues in technology post-COVID, many of which have become even more pronounced. It’s not going to be an easy journey and gender networks have been in existence for many years, but to be able to build on the legacy of SWiT is just fantastic.”
Metcalf, who has been employed in the technology sector in Scotland for more than 20 years, says;
“I’m incredibly humbled to take on the role as Vice-Chair at SWiT. Scotland continues to be a thriving environment for technology businesses and start-ups. We have the opportunity to drive change and it is our intention at SWiT, to help to influence the female talent pipeline in tech in Scotland. We want to ensure that Women and Girls, have the opportunity to develop the skills that our country will need to continue with innovation and growth in technology, without bias.”
With inclusion at the heart of SWiT, you are invited to participate in this short survey to have your say in the future initiatives that SWiT should focus on, to drive the best outcomes for Women in Technology in Scotland – take the survey.
