Future Women Leaders in Data & AI

Who is the programme for?

Mid-career women based in Scotland and working in the tech industry who are in, or aspire to move into, leadership roles. This could include senior-career women looking to broaden their experience and pivot into a leadership role. .

What's involved? 

The programme comprises of two four-hour interactive modules, with breaks included; a one-hour pre-learning e-learning module on AI and cohort building activities. Throughout the course we provide opportunities to help you to identify your strengths, and transferable skills through a range of interactive exercises. You’ll also gain tools and outlooks to lead effectively. The time commitment is around 10 hours.

Course Structure

  • Pre-work: TDL e-learning module AI 101

  • Module 1: Fundamentals of Data and AI Leadership  

    • Session 1: Leading with Data & AI - Understand data maturity, barriers and enablers of change; Promote responsible data leadership 

    • Session 2: Driving Value from Data & AI - Leverage data for organisational benefits; Discover AI opportunities

  • Module 2: Implementing a Data and AI Strategy 

    • Session 1:1: Planning and assessing - Introduction to strategy elements and AI applications; Assess your current state 

    • Session 2 Implementing - Data and AI strategy best practices; Design and implement a strategy roadmap

Online September 2026:

  • E-learning AI 101 available from 3rd August

  • Welcome 9th September, 10:00-10:30

  • Module 1:  17th & 18th September, 10:00-12:00

  • Module 2: 23rd & 24th September, 10:00-12:30

In-person:  February 2027:

  • E-learning AI 101 module available in January

  • 9th and 10th February 2027 (lunch included)

  • Module 1:  9th February,  10:00-16:00

  • Module 2: 10th February,  10:00-16:00

This course is delivered by The Data Lab and is funded by SWiT. Applications are being administered by The Data Lab and will be shared with the Board of SWiT who will decide which applicants are successful in securing a place. Please note that submitting an application does not guarantee a place on the course. Places are limited and the courses are subject to sufficient interest.

Fundamentals of Data & Ai Leadership

Overview

This interactive workshop supports non-technical leaders and professionals to develop a strong understanding of data and AI through practical insights, real-world examples, and guided strategy development, enabling them to identify value in their data, integrate AI into workflows, and build responsible, opportunity-focused data and AI strategies. 

 Participants will leave with the confidence to lead data initiatives and understand the opportunity for AI within their organisation. 

At the end of this course, participants will be able to: 

  1. Find a credible voice when talking about delivering value from AI 

  2. Understand the importance of an effective data and AI strategy   

  3. Develop an inspirational vision that you can communicate and share with your colleagues and stakeholders 

  4. Develop a believable path to success so that others will want to join you on your transformational AI journey

Implementing a Data & AI Strategy

Overview

This interactive workshop supports Data & AI Leaders to develop the capability to design and implement a tailored data and AI strategy through practical roadmap creation and applied learning, enabling them to move from theory to action and effectively govern, deploy, and evolve AI within their organisation. 

Participants will leave with the confidence to lead the development of a data and AI strategy within their organisation.

1.     Explain the importance of having a data & AI strategy. 

2.     Assess their organisation's current data, cultural & capability maturity. 

3.     Apply responsible, ethical, & sustainable AI principles. 

4.     Identify & prioritise high-value & feasible AI & data use cases. 

5.     Develop a phased, practical roadmap for AI & data implementation. 

6.     Evaluate the impact of AI & data initiatives.
